East Side: Gibbon Building

Dr. William H. Gibbon built the Gibbon Building during 1879 at the north end of the east side of the square to house his drug store. The Chariton Leader of Aug. 23, 1879, reported, "Dr. Gibbon's fine new brick store house is now ready for the roofing and finishing."

The Patriot of Dec. 17 reported, "Drs. Gibbon and Carpenter have removed to their new room, which has been elaborately and handsomely furnished."
