Simon Oppenheimer, who had been a tenant of the Mallory Opera Block, built his fine double-front block during 1904 on the two southern lots of the four that had been occupied by the Mallory building, destroyed by fire during January of that year. His clothing store occupied the north storefront of the block for many years, with the south storefront serving as a rental property. With the exception of smaller replacement windows on the second floor, the Oppenheimer building is among the least changed on the square.
